Let's talk about my mini wax world.

“New Adventures In Hi-Fi

The first 3 records i dug out during my first foray into vinyl - George Benson’s and Cher’s LPs, and Soup Dragon’s 12” single. Much, much later, i found Rainbow, CCR, Madness, Sting, Warrant, Skid Row and.. HENDRIX!!! That small pile costs me less than the price of one Iron Maiden 7” single i paid via eBay. On my third visit much later still, i dug-out Judas Priest, Steely Dan, Van Halen and Pink Floyd! - All still in GREAT condition.

More to show.

Megadeth - Killing Is My Business… (Music For Nations 1985 UK release)

“New Adventures In Hi-Fi

After giving my digging haunt a miss for a few weeks, i came back and tried checking-out ALL their records. 3 straight lunch hour days and 5 tall shelves later, i’ve dug-out 21 gems! Yeah, they’re all cruddy and terribly dusty, but none badly scratched. I found progs STYX and Yes, jazz/rock fusion Alan Parsons Project and Ian Gillan Band, Billy Idol, Johhny Cash, Isaac Hayes and Motown-era Stevie Wonder. The nicest/coolest haul for me - Jefferson Airplane’s Surrealistic Pillow and Free’s Heartbreaker and Free Live! records! Not bad for 3 hours work.

Stay tuned.

Voivod - Killing Technology 1987 (Noise International/Combat US release)

“New Adventures In Hi-Fi

I came back to my digging haunt just to see if i’ve missed any records. I was expecting not to find anything good. - 5 minutes later, i was holding onto Commodores, Average White Band, Wild Cherry and Diana Ross records. I left with 10 records under my arm! The coolest - UB40’s C’est La Vie sealed picture disc, and Ray Martin and His Orchestra’s Goldfinger And Other Music From James Bond Thrillers.

More to come.

“New Adventures In Hi-Fi”

I took a rest for more than a week. When i decided to visit again, i did it right after work. I took my time looking through their dusty collection. I go through the same shelves i did the last time - this time SLOWLY. And it paid-off! Over two evenings, i dug-out 23 gems! Favs: B52’s Wild Planet, J Geils Band’s Bloodshot, Sly And The Family Stone’s Stand!, Booker T & The MG’s Greatest Hits, and.. Cyndi Lauper’s She’s So Unusual.

More coming.

Voivod - Dimension Hatröss 1988 (Noise International German release)

“New Adventures In Hi-Fi”

“All good things will come to an end..” - Yeah, same goes here. These might be the last pieces of records i’m getting from them. Rephrase: These ARE the last pieces of records i’m getting from them! Last pieces i managed to dig-out a while back. None good vinyl i can find anymore, except for some Boney-M, Eruption and Lobo. I might just go over there for a last look-over and call it quits for good. Gems this end of days: Dusty Springfield and Shirley Bassey records, Herbie Hancock’s Futureshock (this is the one with Rockit and features Sly Dunbar and Bill Laswell!), David Gilmour’s first solo album, and War’s badass ultrafunk LP, The World Is A Ghetto.

The end is near.

“New Adventures In Hi-Fi”

That’s it! Those are the last of the records i dug-out on my last look-over. I uncovered 3 gems! All terribly dusty and cruddy, but NO scratches. The coolest definitely will have to be Bryan Ferry’s Boys & Girls LP - this one features band members David Gilmour and Omar Hakim. Hoorah for the 90 records or so i nicked from them!

The end.

Wormrot - Abuse 2009 (T.V.G. Records German release)

Straight up grind from Singapore with hate, politics, and a bit of humor. Wormrot are one guitarist, a drummer, and a vocalist. Vicious delivery in the vein of Kill The Client, Phobia, and Magrundergrind. Abuse finally escapes the confines of the South East Asian underground with it’s release on Earache Records. But this T.V.G. release is much sweeter with 110 limited red wax. And don’t forget to check-out Rotworks, art by Arif their vox.

The Observatory - Dark Folke 2009

4th album by Singapore’s The Observatory recorded and mixed in Bergen, Norway with their longtime collaborator Jörgen Traaen - well known producer of bands such as Ultralyd, Motorpsycho and Jaga Jazzist. Artwork designed and drawn by metal/hardcore/underground illustrator and designer, Justin Bartlett aka Vberkvlt, the artist behind the wicked art of Sunn O))), Moss, Aura Noir and more.

“The album feels like a delicate arrangement of shifting textures drawn on a black canvas and then erased.” – Metro Pulse
